Founded by Dr. Bhausaheb Bhoge, a dedicated social worker, in the year 1971, the VSPM Academy of Higher Education, Nagpur (Formerly – Vidya Shikshan Prasarak Mandal) is a registered trust. Late Padmashree Kamlatai Hospet, a lady social worker, was its first president. After her the reins were passed on to Shri Ranjeet A. Deshmukh, a dynamic young man possessing a degree in mechanical engineering in the 70’S and who believed in swimming against the tide. Then Mr. Ranjeet Deshmukh had given up the pleasures of the urban life and rather chose to become the Chairman of Narkhed Panchayat Samiti in rural Nagpur.

The institution has a philosophy of recognizing education as one of its obligations. It aims to promote unity and brotherhood, setting-up of institutions, imparting education in various faculties, opening higher education centers, child education, professional training, centers of excellence, promotion of co-operative movement in various industrial and non-industrial programs with particular emphasis on children, women, family welfare, adult education, fight against social –cultural evils and creating awareness towards progress amongst people who are in rural areas and are the last links of the nation. This includes programs for people who are below the poverty line.

The activities of the Trust were accelerated by its Chairman Shri Ranjeet A. Deshmukh who is a great visionary and has been in the public life for over five decades. Rising from the grass root level, Mr Ranjeet A Deshmukh was a three term MLA and minister in the Maharashtra cabinet for several years. To begin with, a School was started in a small hamlet in 1982 in village Mendhala (Tah: Narkhed, dist th: Nagpur) and has grown to be an umbrella organization managing over 50+ institutions.
